LAZAR is an instrumental post-rock band from Hamburg. Their dynamic sound shifts between heavy riffs, noise, and bright harmonies—balancing anger and euphoria.
Alongside playing festivals and touring, work on their second LP is well underway.
LAZAR is an instrumental post-rock band from Hamburg. The motif of their songwriting and sound is the greatest possible dynamism: complex structures, distorted riffs and noisy walls of sound that merge into daylight harmonies or fade into dark spaces – a field of tension between anger and euphoria.
The EP „Yuma“, released in 2020 and still produced by the three of them, was followed in 2024 by their first LP „STOP DANCING IT WON’T PASS“ on the Poly Unique label, recorded at Tonmeisterei Oldenburg (Long Distance Calling, Omega Massif).
Following the release of their debut LP, LAZAR played numerous shows, including a Germany tour with Der Neue Planet and concerts alongside bands like Weite, Town Portal and Glasgow Come Scale. In 2025, the band performed at various festivals, sharing the stage with major names in heavy rock such as Dyse, Long Distance Calling, Ufomammut, and Valley of the Sun. Later that year, a ten-day tour with OK WAIT from Hamburg will mark LAZAR’s first shows abroad. During this time, the band is fully focused on composing and shaping new material for their second LP, planned for production in 2026.

After recording the EP „YUMA“ as a trio in fall 2019, the instrumental post-rock band LAZAR could not foresee where their search for new ideas would lead as they emerged from the standstill caused by the pandemic. Spurred on by a change on the drums and the addition of a bassist, they created a set that experiments with more complex structures and a broader sonic palette.
In winter 2022, eight songs were recorded with producer Roland Wiegener at Tonmeisterei Oldenburg (Long Distance Calling, Omega Massif) and mastered by him. The songwriting, sound, and ultimately the production of the album are all guided by the principle of maximum possible dynamics – creating a field of tension between rage and euphoria. This emotional ambivalence is the core element of „Stop dancing, it won’t pass“ and is also reflected in the album’s title.
Even though developing an independent style has always been their intention, the influence of bands like Elder, Russian Circles, and ISIS – who are some of their musical role models – can be recognized. Since its release in April 2024, the album has reached an ever-growing audience and received highly positive feedback through numerous concerts.
